Asian Beetles are similar and are of the same family as our native Lady Beetles. They are a beneficial insect feeding on aphids, a destructive plant pest. However, since they have no natural predator they have multiplied to overwhelming numbers. In the fall after a hard (killing) frost or freeze followed by Indian summer (sunny 60 – 70 degree days), they migrate to homes seeking winter shelter under the siding and in wall voids. They are highly attracted to bright sunny sides of homes. In west central Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota this migration has occurred on October 6th the past two years. That is no guarantee that it will always occur on that date. Weather is the determining factor, therefore, it can occur any time in October. During an unusual fall it could happen even as early as late September or as late as mid November. In the past there appeared to be a correlation between the beetle migration and the harvest of soybeans (one of their favorite feeding grounds). That correlation was only coincidental.
CONTROL
