Get Rid of Bats
GENERAL INFORMATION
Though there are eight species of bats in Wisconsin, when we are asked to get rid of bats, we know the most common species to be in your home's attic are the Little Brown Bat and the Big Brown Bat.

Bats are very beneficial, with each bat eating thousands of mosquitoes and other night flying insects, most every night, including the adult moths of serious crop pests such as corn root worms, corn borers, and cut worms. Bats, therefore, became a protected species in Wisconsin in 1979. As of late 2010 bats are also now listed as "Endangered" or "Threatened." This is due to the possibility of a fungus caused disease called "White Nose Syndrome," infecting Wisconsin's cave dwelling bats. The Little Brown and Big Brown bats are both in danger of this disease.

Bats are more valuable now than ever. Since the deadly West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitoes, and since bats eat mosquitoes by the thousands, you can see why they are protected. You want bats around your yard, but not in your house. Its good to put a bat house on your property. A bat house will not help get the bats out of your home, but it will give them a place to go once they are evicted from your home by Prompt Action Bat and Pest Control.

Bats frequently become a nuisance and a health hazard when they take up residence in homes and other buildings. The most feared health issue regarding bats is rabies. Only a small percentage of bats are rabid, but because rabies is such a fatal illness, health professionals tell us that every bat should be assumed rabid and handled accordingly. Another health and safety concern associated with bats is a respiratory illness called hystoplasmosis, which is caused by an organism that breeds in bat guano (feces). Bats also are often infested with bat bugs which are similar to bed bugs in appearance and behavior. If the bat bugs' hosts are gone, they will seek a blood meal from a person sleeping near the bat roost. Once the substitute host is found the bat bugs will infest secluded areas of the mattress, box spring, bed frame, and various other hiding places waiting for a blood meal from the child or adult while he or she is sleeping. The bat bugs then must be exterminated in the same manner as bed bugs. Mites ticks and fleas are also ectoparasites of bats which can be treated during the bat exclusion process.

ABOUT OUR SERVICE
Prompt Action Bat and Pest Control has over 40 years experience in pest control, and 21 years of experience in ridding homes of bats. Every year, we successfully rid hundreds of homes of bats. We use an ecologically-sound method known as "exclusion". This method allows the bats to leave on their own within just a few days of our service.

Our service consists of a thorough inspection of your home, top to bottom, to determine where bats are actually getting in, as well as where they could get in. Where they are currently getting in, an exclusion device is made to go over the openings which allows the bats to exit, but not re-enter. All other possible entrance points (any cracks larger than 1/8th inch) are sealed so bats cannot find an alternative entrance. The bat roosting areas are treated for ectoparasites (bat bugs, mites, ticks and fleas. Where necesarry chimney caps are installed, and vents screened.

Prompt Action has never failed to rid a home or business of bats, and our bat exclusion service is generally guaranteed for two full years. If for some reason the bats are not out of your home within one week, or if bats re-infest your home or business within the warranty period, Prompt Action will return at no extra charge, as often as necessary to solve the problem.

ESTIMATED COST
The cost of the bat exclusion service, including the two year warranty varies from house to house depending upon the size, condition, degree of difficulty, pitch of the roof, type of siding, etc. The average cost for an average home is generally as little as $300.00 to $900.00. The cost to exclude bats from larger homes, especially large two story homes, will generally be more. Call us today for an estimate, 877-877-6678 or use the contact form on the home page.

WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (WDNR). The WDNR requires that we remove or exclude maternity bat colonies from attics and other roosting sites, such as crawl spaces and roof air spaces etc. between August 15 through May 31. This is to prevent the mother bats from being separated from their nursing pups. However if you as a homeowner, or if your tenants, have health and safety issues which you feel require the bats to be removed and excluded between June 1 and August 15, you may request we do the work during that time.

BAT GUANO REMOVAL COSTS
The urinating and defecating odor caused by a large number of bats is often mitigated by the exclusion of the bats. Once all the bats are gone from your home's attic, and the urine and droppings dry, the odor subsides somewhat. However, significant accumulations of guano may need to be removed to prevent you and your family from getting ill.

Bat droppings or guano that has accumulated in the attic is sometimes a health hazard to you, your family and especially to a contractor that must work in it. Significant accumulations of guano should be removed by a professional, such as Prompt Action Bat and Pest Control, which is equiped to deal with such a hazard. Histoplasmosis is a serious respiratory illness caused by an organism that breeds in accumulations of bat guano.

The cost to get rid of bat guano and disinfect the infested areas must be determined by an on-site inspection. The charge for this inspection and estimate is $100.00. If the inspection can be done at the time of a bat exclusion service it is free. Generally the cost to remove guano exceedes $2000.00. Some have had success in being reimbursed by their home owner's insurance. Check with your agent.
